People working in the public sector, professional drivers, top athletes, children and young teenagers or sensitive individuals... for all these people, the presence of THC in the body is not recommended. Even though the maximum THC content permitted in CBD cannabis in Switzerland is 1%, and CBD products containing THC have no psychoactive effect.[1].
Whether due to their profession (police officer, firefighter, train driver, airplane pilot), regulations (such as anti-doping tests for athletes), stage of development (such as children and young teenagers) or even fear of the effects of THC, it's more suitable for these people to use THC-free CBD products.
That's why, at Naturalpes, we've developed a dedicated range of products: the Wellness range.
How do these THC-free CBD products work? How do you get THC-free CBD products? Here's how.
[1] As explained in the report by the Federal Office of Public Health, in partnership with Swissmedic, April 21, 2021: "Cannabis preparations with a total THC content of less than 1.0% are not classified as narcotics".
Over 100: that's how many phytocannabinoids the cannabis plant contains. These include Cannabidiol (CBD), Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and a hundred others, such as CBN, CBC and CBG.
In the medical study Antioxidative and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Cannabidiolpublished in December 2019, researchers explain that CBD is "one of the most active phytocannabinoids derived from Cannabis sativa". It has, according to its authors, "no psychoactive effects but has multiple positive effects, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties."
To understand cannabidiol's potential for the body, it's important to remember that every individual has an endocannabinoid system. Among other things, this system regulates :
It is with this endocannabinoid system that phytocannabinoids interact. This 2019 study takes an in-depth look at these exchanges and their effects. Its authors conclude that "for many diseases, CBD has therapeutic potential, particularly for diseases associated with oxidative stress".
In THC-free CBD products, the challenge is to remove the THC while retaining the other phytocannabinoids, as they will work together to create synergies. This is known as the entourage effect.
The extraction process plays a fundamental role, as it is this stage that produces a quality product containing the maximum number of components. How to achieve quality and eliminate THC?
1) First, the cannabinoids must be extracted from the plants using one of three extraction techniques:
2) Once the plant has been extracted, it is heated and purified.
3) Finally, fractional distillation is carried out to concentrate the cannabinoids and enable the final stage: the THC removal process.
4) This THC removal process is carried out using flash chromatography. Based on the interaction between the components you wish to separate, this technique enables you to isolate components and obtain a pure sample. Once this process has been carried out, the distillate obtained contains all the cannabinoids, with the exception of THC.
As we've seen, the endocannabinoid system regulates concentration, physical capacity, motivation... in a word, many of the parameters essential to the practice of sport. How is the use of phytocannabinoids, which can have an impact on these parameters, regulated in sport?
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which is responsible for scientific research, education, anti-doping development and monitoring compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, is clear on this point. The classification of prohibited products includes THC and all synthetic cannabinoids.
CBD, on the other hand, is authorized. Its use will therefore not be punished, and athletes can potentially see their daily lives improve by using these THC-free CBD products.
